French 18 ThC Billet Doux Case

A wonderful and rare antique French 18 ThC Billet Doux case (literally: sweet note case) in Vernis Martin, which is a formed case into which love notes and invitations of a romantic nature were traditionally passed in the 1700s. This one contains also a scent bottle with silver stopper. The top of the scent bottle is broken. The inside is wood and tortoise shell. It is 6 inches long.
