Chinese fan, “thousand faces fan”, circa 1880
Chinese fan made in Canton for export to Europe. Beautiful ivory mount engraved and carved characters, landscapes, flowers … Paper leaf painted on both sides of terraced scenes with 50 characters on each side. The clothes of each character are silk and the heads are ivory, each element being stuck on the leaf. It is 11,02″ long and 20,08″ in diameter.
