Edouard Lièvre (1828-1886), Painted Fan Signed
Edouard Lièvre (1828-1886) is well known for his work as a cabinetmaker, but he was also a draftsman, painter, illustrator and engraver. He signed the magnificent painting of this fan whose leaf is paper lined with skin. The mount is beautifully engraved mother-of-pearl, with characters and putti decoration. It measures 10,82″ closed and 20,86″ in open diameter. The frame is in perfect condition, some wear on the leaf.
France, mid-nineteenth century.
